The long-awaited fantasy drama series, House of Dragon, is finally here, and fans are beyond ecstatic. The show released its first episode on 21st August 2022 on HBO, which received praise from audiences all over. Eager viewers now await the release of House of Dragon Episode 2.
House of Dragon is the prequel to the immensely popular fantasy series, Game of Thrones (GoT). The original series, GoT, ran from 2011-2019 and broke records with some of its viewership and ratings. Both Games of Thrones and House of Dragon follow the storyline of George R.R. Martin’s novel, A Song of Ice and Fire. House of Dragon mostly takes inspiration from the “Fire and Blood” part of the novel. Created by Ryan Condal and George R.R. Martin, the series currently airs on HBO.
It takes place 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen and 200 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones. The show follows the events that started and led to destroying the House Targaryen. It also covers the famous Targaryen war of succession, better known as “Dance of the Dragons.” House of Dragons takes its viewers through a rollercoaster of events full of dirty politics, betrayal, massacres, and battles.
However, unlike its counterpart, HoD does not have nearly as much nudity or unnecessary violence. One may call it a toned-down version of GoT. Although, only time will tell whether toning it down works in favour of the show or not.

All Game of Thrones viewers would agree that GoT was much more than just a show; it became a brand. Therefore, in October 2019, House of Dragon received the green light for a straight-to-series order. The team began casting in July of the following year, with principal photography starting in April 2021. The team of House of Dragons worked tireless, even through the pandemic, to make the series a reality.

Episode 1 Recap
During the reign of King Jaehaerys Targaryen, many unfortunate events led to the death of two of his oldest sons. As a result, the king no longer had an heir to his kingdom. As a result, the Great Council gathered to choose the new ruler of the seven kingdoms. Princess Rhaenys Targaryen and Prince Viserys Targaryen were both in line to become the next ruler. However, as per Westerosi’s rules, the male candidate, i.e. Prince Viserys, received precedence over Princess Rhaenys and became the new king.
Nine years into his rule, King Viserys I faces an imminent threat from the Triarchy, a coalition between the free cities of Essos, all wanting to take control of the Stepstones region. Viserys confronts his brother Daemon for his barbarity towards the King’s Landing’s commander of the City Watch.
Meanwhile, Queen Aemma is nine months pregnant and soon to give birth. Confident that the queen will give birth to a baby boy, the king throws a grand celebration tournament. Unfortunately, Queen Aemma and her unborn child die during childbirth. Moreover, Ser Criston Cole also defeats Daemon in the tournament.
While discussing matters with the king, Ser Otto Hightower suggests that princess Rhaenyra became the rightful heir of the Iron Throne. Although conflicted at first, when Viserys gets into an altercation with Daemon, he agrees to make Rhaenyra the next in line to rule.
