Apple Air Tags VS Tile Tags it has been the common discussion now to what to choose. Because it is inevitable to not lose small items like keys and even your wallets at any point in your life. Everyone has at some point gone through the hassle of finding their keys when they need them the most. Then there’s getting your things stolen or accidentally losing them. An interesting fact is that about 43% of people who drive regularly spend at-least 3 minutes looking for their keys. These minutes become hours if we look at it yearly.
Wow! We sure waste a huge amount of time on such a small thing. Well, all this is now in the past since the invention of Tile tags, finding your misplaced items is a breeze now. Recently Apple launched their tags, Apple Air tags.
Now the question here is which one is better. So, let’s discuss that and how these devices work and how one can use them.
How does Tile work?
The tile has a Bluetooth device in it that connects with your smartphone or any smart device that has a Bluetooth connector. Now then if you lose the tile along with the items it was with, you can track it. There are two ways to find the tile,
- If it is near you or is somewhere within the room or house, the Tile has a speaker that will play out a tune or ringer on your command. You can then follow the sound and retrieve the Tile.
- Another way is the location tracker on the Tile. The application that you must use along with the Tile has a location tracking feature. It tells the owner how far the tile is and it also points to the direction of the tile. The technology the companies use is very high tech which gives out a very precise and accurate location and distance of the Tile. If the Tile is out of the range of your Bluetooth device, then it will ping on other people’s devices and show you the location. You can also mark the Tile as lost so that others can help you find it if they are near it.
How to use Tile?
You can use them with almost anything. The Tile is the size of a coin so you can keep it anywhere. Use double-sided tape to attach them to something. Tiles usually come with loops so you can keep them with keys, or you can just slide them in your stuff or your wallets.
Apple Air Tags vs Tile Tags
Designs and Types of Connection
The Apple Air Tags is a very small device, almost the size of a quarter. This miniature device runs on a standard watch battery, the CR2032. These small batteries will last up to years. One side of the tag is made of stainless steel and the other of plastic. The Tag has a built-in speaker that will play out the sound when you press the find Tag option. The application is available for Apple devices only and not on Android devices. AirTags have a standard IP67 rating and are waterproof. You can hold these in water for about half an hour and 2 meters deep. Apple does not specify what type of connection it is using in its Apple AirTags.
Tile Tags offer four different connections for their devices. They are made up of plastic all around and contain a speaker that plays a sound when you use the find my device feature. The Tile application is available for both Android and Apple, unlike AirTags.
Price Difference
AirTags are a little more expensive than Tile Tags. One AirTag will cost you $29 and a pack of four AirTags will amount up to $99. Now, if you want to buy accessories for AirTags, you will need to spend way more as the ones Apple provides are very expensive.
Now as said above Tile has 4 different versions of its Tile Tag, but the one we can compare to Apple’s AirTags is Tile Mate. The Tile mate without any accessories and can still be attached to any key or loop costs $24.99 and a pack of four costs $69.99.
Tile Tags have been around a long time now and offer various discounts on holidays and other occasions whereas Apple does not offer any such discounts.
Apple Air Tags VS Tile Tags – Sound Quality
The mechanism in both the Tile Tags and AirTags are almost the same. However, voice assistant integration on the AirTag is only available for Siri. But it is available for Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant on the Tile Tags.
The sound quality of the Tile Tags proves to be better than the AirTags. The built-in speaker on the Tile tag gave a 70 db. Whereas, 63 db sound gets played on the AirTags when played from under a pile of cushions. Tile tags play the detection sound continuously until and unless you press stop but on the AirTags there are only three small cycles of five beeps. The sound on AirTags cannot be altered whereas it can be on the Tile Tag.
Apple Air Tags VS Tile Tags – Tracking and Locating
AirTags have this unique feature of estimating distance and showing direction. The super-powered chips inside Apple iPhone 11 and above give an almost accurate location and the estimated distance of the AirTag. However, cavity walls and long distances will affect the performance of this feature.
Tile Tags show concentric circles on the smartphone screen and as you get closer to the tag the circles will become much more lit up indicating that the signal is strong and you are nearer to the Tile Tag
Finding Lost Tags
If you mark the tag as lost through the application, when a Tile or AirTag user passes by the lost Tag will ping you its location even if it is out of your range. You will get an anonymous notification that will pinpoint the exact location of the Tag when another phone’s near it. All tags will continue to do this if they are marked lost.
Well, the decision, in the end, is yours. I would recommend you go for Apple AirTags if you are an Apple user. Both Tags are excellent tracking devices.
