According to the coroner’s office spokesperson Stephanie Wheatley, Ryan Keeler cause of death is dysrhythmia as a result of a heart disease called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This disease mainly thickens the heart muscle. It also affects the heart’s ability to pump blood. Over time, the disease can thicken the heart muscle so much that it fails to relax properly, leading to fatal arrhythmias.

During the police investigation, one of Ryan’s friends informed the police that before passing away, Ryan felt sick and nauseous. Then, two UNLV coaches who were worried about him went to his studio apartment to perform a welfare check. They wanted to ensure that their star athlete was in perfect health. However, there was no answer, even though the coaches knocked repeatedly. Soon after, one of the UNLV coaches kicked down the door to his apartment. The coaches found Ryan Keeler lying dead on his bed.

Ryan Keeler was a Nazareth Academy alumni who helped his team win the 2018 state title. He began his college career at Rutgers and shifted to UNLV in 2021. He had just completed his freshman year as a defensive lineman and played seven games with the Rebels before passing away. Moreover, this year, he received a 3.80 GPA as a pre-business student achieving the Academic All-Mountain West honors.

He also spoke of Keeler’s qualities, such as his fierce competitiveness, selfless leadership, and the love, compassion, and humor he shared with the rest of his teammates.
