Born David Adam Le Batard on November 19, 1972, in New York City, he was the son of Cuban immigrants Gonzalo and Lourdes Le Batard. David attended Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School in South Florida before pursuing higher studies at Florida International University. A gifted artist from an early age, he was recognized for his talents when he received the prestigious Silver Knight Award for art in Broward County, Florida, in 1990. He later had the honour of judging the same competition.
David Le Batard’s artistic journey was significantly influenced by his passion for comic books, notably the iconic “Spy vs Spy” comic strip illustrated by Antonio Prohías and published in Mad Magazine. His pager code, “0837,” inspired his nickname “LEBO.” Intrigued by Prohías’ story, David made it his mission to learn more about the illustrator and eventually became friends with him. Working at the International Museum of Cartoon Art further enriched his understanding of Prohías’ inspiring legacy.
