Photo, signature and fingerprints, as well as authentication and electronic signature certificates, will be stored on a microchip visible on any mobile device through an ‘app’.
The creation of the European DNI or electronic DNI , which responds to compliance with EU Regulation 2019/1157 of the European Parliament and of the Council of June 20, 2019, mandatory for all EU states as of August 2 , updates its image and incorporates new security measures , both visible and invisible.
The National Police, in a joint effort with La Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre – Real Casa de la Moneda, has designed a support that includes material, technical, security, functional and usability characteristics in accordance with the needs requested by citizens in the digital age.
A code and 12 yellow stars
Among the changes introduced, the new DNI includes the name in English ( National Identity Card ), since European regulations require that the words ‘identity document’ appear in at least one other official language of the EU institutions. On the obverse, the two-letter code of the Member State (ES in the case of Spain) has also been added, printed in negative in a blue rectangle and surrounded by twelve yellow stars.
The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska , presented this document on Wednesday at the National Police station in the Madrid town of Móstoles. The actress Luisa Martín , Inspector Miralles in the television series ‘Servir y Protecte’ , was the first person to receive the new National Identity Document , as reported by the Ministry of the Interior.
“Our goal is that the new document can be used by all Spaniards, so that they benefit from the opportunities offered by information technologies in their application to electronic commerce and Electronic Administration “, added Marlaska.
Digital identity
This new model of European DNI is part of the DNIE Digital Identity Program of the National Police, financed with resources from European funds. The program is currently working on the development of a free application that will soon allow any citizen to accredit their identity and use the electronic signature from their mobile device .
The photo, signature and fingerprints, in addition to the authentication and electronic signature certificates, will be stored on a microchip, which will be visible on the mobile device through that ‘app’ that is under development.
In the coming months, the launch of the Express DNI is also planned , a semi-automatic issuance system that will reduce waiting times in ordinary renewals and increase security , obtaining the photograph in situ; the increase in the number of Unattended Updating Posts of the electronic DNI, to facilitate the renewal of digital certificates for citizens; and payment of fees by bank card .
