HBO Max’s “Tokyo Vice” trailer has been published, giving fans a first peek at the upcoming crime drama. The series stars Ansel Elgort as American journalist Jake Adelstein as he uncovers the criminal underbelly and culture of police corruption in 1990s Tokyo. It is loosely based on Adelstein’s coverage of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police’s operations. Along with

Elgort was cast as the lead of the series, which was greenlit in 2019. Michael Mann, an Emmy winner and respected filmmaker, then joined the production, directing the pilot episode and he served as executive producer for the series. J.T. Rogers is the show’s creator, writer, and executive producer.

Endeavour Content and WOWOW, a Japanese pay-TV network, collaborated on “Tokyo Vice.” And following executive producers:

Mann’s first directing attempt ever since release of his 2015 globe-trotting thriller “Blackhat” is “Tokyo Vice.” With films like “Heat,” “Collateral,” “Manhunter,” and “Thief,” the filmmaker is widely regarded as one of the masters of the modern crime genre. Mann was also an executive producer on HBO’s short-lived drama series “Luck” and directed “Miami Vice.”

On April 7, the first three episodes of “Tokyo Vice” will be available on HBO Max. Every Thursday after that, two new episodes will air, leading up to the season finale on April 28.
