God of War TV series reportedly in talks with Amazon

Something to look forward to While big-screen adaptations of video games are still hit-or-miss (mainly miss), taking the genre to the world of television has had a lot more success. According to a recent report, God of War will be the next game to become a television series.

God of War TV series reportedly in talks with Amazon

According to Deadline, Amazon Prime Video is in talks to adapt Sony’s successful franchise into a live-action television show. The Expanse executive producers and creators Mark Fergus and Hawk Otsby, as well as The Wheel of Time executive producer/showrunner Rafe Judkins, will adapt it. It will also be produced by Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions.

There is no information on which aspects of the games will be covered in the show. The first God of War was introduced in the year 2005, and the eighth instalment, God of War: Ragnarok, will be going to release later this year.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson said in January that he would star in his third film based on a video game. He didn’t reveal what it was, merely teasing that it would be “one of the biggest, most badass games ever to hit the screen.” God of War was mentioned as a possibility; however, it appears that Amazon is instead turning the title into a TV adaption. The Rock was rumoured to be starring in a Gears of War film, but multiple sources now indicate it will be a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare adaptation.

God of War will join a slew of other upcoming video game TV shows, including The Last of Us, Twisted Metal, Fallout, and Mass Effect, all from Sony. Now it’s time to get ready for the online debate over who will play Kratos. A shaved-headed Jason Momoa or Dave Bautista, who has long expressed interest in starring in a Gears of War adaptation, would be good choices, in this writer’s opinion.
