The live-action remake of Harold and the Purple Crayon officially has a summer 2023 release date. Originally written by Crockett Johnson, the first book was released all the way back in 1955. Over the decades, multiple animated shorts and nine different book sequels of the original book were released.
The film adaptation of Harold and the Purple Crayon has long been in the making. In 2010, there were reports of a CGI version going into development. Unfortunately, there were no further updates on that.

A Summer 2023 Release Date
Filming for Harold and the Purple Crayon began in 2022. Initially, there were reports that the live-action film would release on 27th January 2023. Sadly, this release date got pushed ahead by several months. According to the production houses, the new official release date for Harold and the Purple Crayon is 30th June 2023. The movie will release in theaters in the United States on the same date.

Cast for Harold and the Purple Crayon
Although we recently learned about the movie’s release date, news about the cast came much earlier. After making viewers wait so long, Sony and Columbia send a star-studded stellar cast our way.
According to reports, Harold and the Purple Crayon will feature Zachary Levi in a prominent role. Unfortunately, we are not aware of what this role would be, but it is unlikely that he would play 4-year-old Harold. Levi previously starred in popular movies such as Chuck and Shazam!
Further joining the cast, we have Zooey Deschanel and Lil Rel Howery. Deschanel gained popularity for her leading role in the hit comedy series New Girl. Lil rel Howery is famous for his role in movies such as Uncle Drew and Free Guy. Finally, joining the cast, we also have Ravi Patel, known for his roles in Wonder Woman 1984 and Transformers. However, the exact role of all these actors in the movie is still under wraps.

Sadly, we still need to find out who will play the role of Harold, the 4-year-old main character in the movie. Seems like the team is purposely building up the suspense, and we likely won’t find out who plays Harold till the trailer drops.
Harold and the Purple Crayon Plot
If you’ve read the popular children’s storybook, you likely have an obvious idea of the plot. Harold and the Purple Crayon follows the story of 4-year-old Harold as he uses his magical purple crayon to draw a whole world around him. Anything Harold desires, he can make with his crayon, and it’ll come to life.
We are unaware of how closely the movie would follow the book’s plot. Based on the name, the general theme will likely be the same. However, it will be interesting to see what different twists the creators decide to add to the film. It’ll give the movie a unique touch and make it attractive to older audiences as well.

There is no official trailer for the live-action version of Harold and the Purple Crayon. Although, this should come as no surprise. With the January release date being pushed forward to June, there are still a few months till the movie releases. Therefore, it is likely that the teaser or trailer would release about 4-6 weeks before the movie’s release.
