Call of the Elder Gods finally has a release date. Publisher Kwalee and developer Out of the Blue Games have confirmed that the game will launch on May 12, 2026. The game will be available on Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S through Steam and the Microsoft Store. It will also be available on day one with Xbox Game Pass.

As a sequel to Call of the Sea, the game looks bigger this time, but it still keeps the same slow mystery and first-person puzzle style that made the 2020 game popular.

The Game Goes Beyond Call of the Sea

Call of the Elder Gods

This time, the story takes place at Miskatonic University. It follows Professor Harry Everhart and a student named Evangeline Drayton, who gets caught up in a weird mystery. Both of them are dealing with missing loved ones, strange visions, and secrets that go beyond their understanding.

Players will switch between the two characters as they search for clues and slowly figure out what is actually going on. As the story goes on, things start to get stranger and more disturbing.

The sequel clearly tries to do more than just repeat the first game. It tells the story through two characters, takes you to more places, and leans into a darker, cosmic style. The story is also inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s The Shadow Out of Time, which gives a stronger horror feel to the game.

Puzzles Are Still the Main Focus

Out of the Blue Games has kept the puzzle side of the game at the center. Players will look around different areas, find clues, and solve problems that may require more than one step. Some puzzles may even connect across different places or moments.

To make things easier for the players, the game also gives toggleable hints, icons, and journal guidance to track clues. Overall, the goal is to challenge players without frustrating them. If the developers get this balance right, the game could become more enjoyable and easier to get into than many other puzzle games.

From a New England Mansion to the Australian Outback

The game takes players to a wide range of places. Harry and Evangeline’s journey starts at a mansion in New England and then moves to the Australian outback. Along the way, they also travel through frozen wastelands and otherworldly cities. The game is being made using Unreal Engine 5, and Eduardo De La Iglesia is returning to create the music.

These different locations could end up being one of the sequel’s biggest advantages. While the first game focused more on atmosphere, this one is going for greater variety.

Game Pass Could Help the Sequel Reach More Players

Another important update is that the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. Players can try the game as soon as it releases, which helps it reach more people, especially when many games launch at the same time.

This is very important because players often overlook story-based puzzle games unless they arrive with a strong platform push. Game Pass helps with this by letting more people try the game easily, even if they are not ready to buy it day one.

A Demo Is Available on Steam

PC players can already try a demo of Call of the Elder Gods: The First Chapter on Steam. This works well for a game like this since players can see if they like the story and pacing before buying it.

If the demo leaves a good impression on the players, it can build interest before release. If not, they will know what to expect. Either way, it is better than buying the game without trying it first.

When Call of the Elder Gods Comes Out

The game will release on May 12, 2026. Players will be able to play it on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S,  PC, and Switch 2. The game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass from the first day.

So far, it looks like the sequel is not just repeating the first game. It is trying to add new ideas and do things differently, which is a good sign.
