The new Apple TV Series Physical’s last episode premiered on 6th August. And the finale has also set the story for the sequel to follow. But have the showrunners confirmed this news? Yes, the renewal news came a few days back! This brings us to the release date of Physical Season 2. When will the sequel be released? And will the same cast return for the second installment?
The series created by Annie Weisman explores the genre of dark comedy. It centers on Rose Byrne’s character Sheila. Physical is one of the very few shows that the underrated actress has worked in and we are hopeful that she will get to play Sheila in the following season too.
The dramedy revolves around a woman living in the 1980s. She is trying her best to support her husband’s bid for state assembly and in the middle of this exhausting process, Sheila discovers the world of aerobics. The aerobics, later on, becomes the only thing that keeps her sanity intact. Her husband’s interests have left the family bankrupt; hence Sheila starts planning for her empire of home gymnastics. And in this mission, she faces a lot of hardships, which gives the show its main element of “dark comedy”. So if you are looking for something light-hearted comedy show to watch then Physical should be on your watchlist!
Annie Weisman’s show was received quite well by the critics and the audience. Hence, she did not waste any time in announcing the renewal of the show. But the finale had already made the second season inevitable. How? You’ll read about it below. So, let’s begin!
Physical Season 2 Release Date
The first season consisted of 10 episodes, each of about 30 minutes. And on the day of the premiere, the first 3 episodes went on air simultaneously. Physical Season 2 is also expected to follow the same pattern.
Apple TV renewed the show in the press conference on 4th August but they did not reveal the release date for the sequel. Because it is too early to say anything as the show has just ended. But the cliffhanger that the first season ended on gives us an idea that the writers already have a plan of how they want to continue with the show. Now, all it needs is a good script.
If the production for the sequel starts in a month or two then Physical Season 2 will come out in mid or late 2022! But it depends on how the showrunners have planned the schedule.
Cast
Although Apple TV has not disclosed the cast of Physical Season 2 but we do know that the key roles will return for the sequel. The following list includes the names of potential cast members of the 2nd installment:

- Rory Scovel (as Sheila’s husband Danny)
- Grace Kelly Quigley (as Sheila’s daughter Maya)
- Dierdre Friel (as Sheila’s friend Greta)

- Paul Sparks (as John Breem)
Other supporting characters will also return to the sequel; Mrs. Breem (Erin Pineda), Jerry (Geoffrey Arend), Simone (Ashley Liao), and Greta’s husband Ernie (Ian Gomez). As the series is in its early phase there will definitely be new characters in the sequel too! But we don’t know them yet. Most likely it will be revealed sometime before the release of Physical Season 2.
Plot
By the end of the first season, Sheila had successfully achieved her dreams. She is now a self-made entrepreneur but the people who gave her the motivation in this hectic process are not given their due credit. The world just seems to give attention to Sheila and her other two business partners are sidelined. Bunny and Tyler’s reactions will be explored in the Physical Season 2. And it will definitely have an impact on Sheila! How? She might not be able to cope up with the sudden fame all by herself and the withdrawal of her partners’ support will only make things difficult for her.
Sheila might have succeeded in her professional life but her personal life has worsened. In the finale episode, she indulges in intimate interaction with John Breeme; this scandalous affair will most likely affect her married life which was already on thin ice.
So, the second season will only get more problematic for Sheila. And her anorexia might make the situation even tougher for her. This is all that we can say about the storyline of the second season because we don’t have the official plot synopsis for Physical Season 2 yet!
